銅版画家。1952年埼玉県浦和市生まれ、大阪育ち。1978年京都市立芸術大学西洋画専攻科修了。
抜群の構成力と印象的な色使いで、洒脱で洗練された雰囲気をもつ独自の銅版画の世界を確立。アートをもっと身近に感じてほしいと願い、書店もひとつのギャラリーであるという発想のもとに、吉本ばなな『TUGUMI』をはじめ、数多くの書籍の装幀、挿画を手がける。アクセサリーや食器、舞台衣装のデザインから、CM出演、CD制作まで、幅広いメディアで活躍。全国10ヵ所の美術館を巡回した朝日新聞社主催「山本容子の美術遊園地」展で、その人気を不動のものにした。
作品集、画文集のほか、絵本やエッセイなどの著作も多い。近刊として、『山本容子のジャス絵本Jazzing (CD付)』(講談社)、『パリ散歩画帖』(阪急コミュニケーションズ)、『犬は神様』(講談社)、『山本容子の食物(たべもの)語り』(清流出版)、 『ふしぎの国のアリス 新装版』（講談社）がある。
また、アートワーク・プロジェクトとして音楽ホールやウエディングチャペルの壁画制作、国際博覧会（ドイツ・ハノーバー）への出品や表参道ルイ・ヴィトン ビル新築工事仮囲いなどがあり、近年では、2007年10月埼玉県さいたま市に開館した、鉄道博物館内にステンドグラス〈過ぎゆくもの〉（3m×10m）を制作し注目をあびた。2008年6月14日開通した、東京メトロ副都心線新宿三丁目駅に設置されたステンドグラス〈Hop,Step,Hop,Step〉（2.5m×8m）とモザイク壁画〈Tea Party〉（2.2m×5.5m）を制作。パブリックアートやプロデュースのジャンルにも精力的に活動の場を広げている。

Yoko Yamamoto is a Japanese etcher and painter. She was born in 1952 and completed Post Graduate Course of Oil Painting Department of Kyoto City University of Arts in 1978.
Yoko Yamamoto’s outstanding compositional skills and striking use of color have enabled her to carve a niche in the world of etching. Wanting to bring art closer to home and based on her belief that bookstores are a type of art gallery, she has undertaken numerous projects from designing book covers to drawing illustrations for books. As well as designing accessories, tableware and stage costumes, she is active in different medias as she produces CDs and appears in television commercials.
Needless to say, the area of her artistic activities has been expanding. She involves herself with public art and takes positions as an artistic producer. For example, she has created murals for wedding chapels, and exhibited the Lantern Car, whose body was made of Japan paper at the Hanover World Exposition in 2000. In addition, she provided her artwork for the temporal enclosure design of the Louis Vuitton shop in Tokyo during its construction. Recently she has worked on a stained glass project for the Railway Museum in Japan.
